Jealousy vs. Thanksgiving by Jeanne Hirsch

This past Sunday we talked about the Green Eyed Monster of Jealousy with the preschool kids.  In our 1 Samuel series we have talked about the actions of Saul when he became jealous of David’s success.  We can think of the repercussions of jealousy like a vinegar and baking soda reaction, foam that not only spills out over us but all those around us.

As part of our activities on Sunday the four year old class made thankful boxes.  They decorated a simple white gift box with things and drawings of their choice and then made pictures of things that they were thankful for to fill the box.

As I was thinking over the topic for my blog this week, this activity reminded me that we as adults need these reminders as well.  The kids were instructed to review the pictures in their thankful box each time they were jealous and wanted something they didn’t have.  Our society encourages us to always want what we don’t have.   Maybe we as adults should consider making our own version of a thankful box and review it each time we covet something someone else has.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, this might be a fun thing to do as a family to remind us that many of the things that we are thankful for are not material things.

May you all have a healthy, joyful, and God centered Thanksgiving and Christmas seasonJ
