December
21st will be the shortest day of the year. Along with the shortest day comes the longest
night, sometimes referred to as ‘a blue night’.
If you were to get a glance of your shadow on this day around noon, it
would be the longest shadow you would see all year. Some of us are in the middle of a season of
great darkness and shadows. The
festivities going on around us bring a great contrast to our own situations:
loneliness, grief, loss, separation and pain.
On December 7th, we will gather to acknowledge the contrast
we feel inside.
Some
of the most comforting words in the universe are “me, too”. That moment when you find out that your
struggle is also someone else’s struggle that you are not alone and that others
are sharing our same road. Join with us
in sharing and hearing prayers, scriptures and music that recognizes Gods
presence is for those who mourn, for those who struggle and that Gods word
comes to shine light into our darkness.
“You
are not alone.” Isaiah 43:5 EEV
Please
join us in a service of remembrance and hope for those we miss during this
Christmas season. This gathering
provides a space for those who are having a difficult time during the holidays
or simply need to acknowledge the pain or loss you are carrying in the midst of
this season of celebration.
“Come to
me all of you who are tired. You are
like people who have worked for a long time.
You are like people who have carried heavy things. Come to me and you will find a place to rest.”
Matthew
11:28 EEV
Lay down your burden for a few minutes
and rest with us.
There will be a time of fellowship following the service in
the adult classroom.
