Amidst the "world systems" we live in and enter
into for our everyday kingdom reality, we are taught to do whatever it takes to
produce a desired outcome. Productivity,
competition, and success measures can subtly equate to pride and envy, driving
us to go beyond the limits of ethics and kingdom integrity, not to mention we
can become "human doings" and miss God breaking-through.
This sweat
and toil mindset contradicts
the Kingdom Economy as found in God's Word.
"So I gave you a land on which you
did not toil and cities you did not build; and you live in them and eat from
vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant." (Josh 24:13)
When the people of Israel came out of Egypt, a place of
sweat, toil and slavery, God was trying to teach them a new economy of
receiving. Instead of sweat
and toil, He wanted them to
learn obedience. Now their income would
be based on their obedience, not skills, status etc.
That stikes me today to ask us as a community of people
"on the way" ... are you making time for living in the ways of
Jesus? welcoming and inviting? prayerful
and patient? intentional and deepening?
Stay vertical with God in your everyday kingdom
activities and movement. He will
determine your next activity - and trails of grace will "mark" your
life journey.
What do you think?
