I work in a church. I imagine you know that. Just
because I work in a church does not mean that I am always aware of the
presence of God. My desire is to live out Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians
5:17 to “pray continuously”…to live in a constant state of conversation
and awareness of God. But my desire is not my current reality.
In
a conversation with Dan Schuknecht I was recently reminded of the
season when we went through the Daily Office as a congregation. One of
the primary spiritual disciplines was to create space for a couple of
intentional pauses in our day to “be” with God. I’ve been consistent
with such a space to begin my day, but have been inconsistent at best
during the day. One of the ways I’m seeking to deepen with God is to
re-commit to an intentional second pause each day. Not because God will
love me more. He can’t love more than He already does. But rather to
open my eyes to the gift of His presence that He’s already given to me.
